Base of Thumb Arthritis Success Story
THE PROBLEM
A 55-year-old lady attended Revive Physio with ongoing pain at the base of her thumb that had gradually worsened over several years.
She reported pain when opening jars, gripping objects, carrying shopping bags and performing household tasks.
Simple everyday activities had become increasingly frustrating and she was finding herself avoiding certain movements because of pain.
She had previously tried splinting, activity modification and exercises but continued to experience persistent symptoms.
WHAT WE FOUND
Assessment confirmed symptoms consistent with osteoarthritis of the first carpometacarpal joint (base of thumb arthritis).
The joint was tender, painful with grip activities and affecting her ability to complete everyday tasks comfortably.
Following discussion of treatment options, she decided to proceed with a Hyaluronic Acid injection.
