Patient Success Story – Shoulder Pain *
When this patient first came to see me, she had been struggling with left shoulder pain for around 4–5 months.
It had started for no obvious reason — she simply woke up with it one morning and initially thought she had slept awkwardly.
But instead of settling, it gradually became worse.
She described a nagging ache over the top of her shoulder and down the outside of her arm towards her elbow, with sharper pain at times.
It was affecting everyday things such as:
✨ Picking things up
✨ Sitting comfortably
✨ Lying on her left side
✨ Sleeping
On assessment, she had pain through several shoulder movements, particularly when lifting her arm above 90 degrees, along with tenderness around the shoulder, rotator cuff tendons and surrounding muscles.
Her presentation was consistent with subacromial shoulder pain/bursitis.
We worked together using a combination of hands-on physiotherapy, joint and shoulder blade mobilisation, muscle and trigger-point work, mobility exercises and progressive rotator cuff strengthening and stabilisation.
The result?
🙌 Full, pain-free shoulder movement
🙌 No tenderness
🙌 Able to lie on her shoulder again
🙌 Sleeping comfortably
🙌 Back to normal everyday activities
Sometimes pain that has been there for months doesn't mean you have to learn to live with it.
